hiccups

The sudden you.
Father, Mother, Sun
Lips face and tongue
the new embrace of life
its a coming

Circular and vibrant
pulsating hearbeat rythm
kicking and moving
encompassed
lively

Rings jump to life
interconnection
always here, always near
the ever changing sameness
of being

We bring on the bring on
we connect the connected
we live the lives
that live life
forever

"The secret to success is sincerity. Once you can fake that, you've got it made." - Jean Giraudoux

"The progressive development of man is vitally dependent on invention. It is the most important product of his creative brain. Its ultimate purpose is the complete mastery of mind over the material world, the harnessing of the forces of nature to human needs." - Nikola Tesla

Push comes to shovels

Sweet elastic film. The kind that grabs you and splits your eyeballs with acorn-like rainbows. Magical elves dancing in skittles commercials. Glossy popcorn popped fresh in automotive paint shops. Bumpers dented and hanging having fulfilled their purpose. Shiny windowshields shielding wind from shine. Plausible possibilities. We all organize ourselves as I do in the morning. Gather together. Look at myself in the mirror. Squirel face and large hands. Possum paws, more like racoons, blindly act on the ideas I send them. When I outstretch my arm it looks alien. Something out of a movie or an automotive assembly line. Foreign and strange. I can pick my headphones up with just a thought. Placing them on my head bone for ears to hear. Sound vibrates air. Pushing pushes. Thoughts ignite. I start to write.

In The Elevator

Today, as I was going to the 5th floor of my office, I got into the elevator with a couple. They seemed my age, dressed to the 9's as is everyone I work with. They didn't share a glance, not even a touch, but there was electricity. I could feel it, sense it...I know that feeling, the feeling of unmistakeable magnetic attraction when its being fought against for whatever reason. As I stepped out onto my floor, the doors began to close and the girl spoke to him thinking that I couldn't hear:

"Do you still love your wife then?" she asked.

as the doors slid closed, he replied:

"No, but I don't know how to leave her..."

The Best Bakery In Poulsbo

Pollen sticks to the early leaves. Talking breeze speaks breakfast and coffee, stuck in my nose, burning my brain. I'll stop walking, come on. Catch up. You never walk beside me, why do I have to lead? We're going to miss the goddamn ferry again.

The noise of the street is just enough sound to clear my head. Up and down like a 12 year old girl, hormonal or maybe just immature. Grow up and be the one you were yesterday, 3 days ago, last week. Year. Lifetime. You skip around like a frog in a pond. I'm in the ankle deep grass, catching fireflies while you watch and wish you were, too. Come here, we've done this before. The daylight won't hurt you, remember?
Tell her(him),
Tell her(him) (s)he can kiss my ass, then laugh and say that you were only kidding
That way (s)he’ll know that it’s really, really, really, really me, me
Baby, instant soup doesn’t really grab me
Today I need something more sub-sub-sub-substantial
A can of beans or blackeyed peas, some nescafe and ice,
A candy bar, a falling star, or a reading of doctor seuss
The cat in the hat came back, wrecked a lot of havoc on the way,
Always had a smile and a reason to pretend
But their world has flat backgrounds and little need to sleep but to dream
The sidewinder sleeps on his back

c loud c all

Float down gentle snowflake. Cars fall outside, out of the sky. Numbers glisten in the spotlight. Shimmer the light calls from a fogged up window. Circles wiped away for a clearer view. The sun rises in the east, sets in my shirt pocket for happy keeping. Night brings the star dancers. Parades of celestial occupents exchanging vast energy impulses. Shake my hand cloud formation before you go. It's always nice to do business with you. The skyline your byline. Immediately recognizable pattern of up and down, here and now. It'd be silly to define it. Never hiding it. I'd like to ride it. Off into the distance. Peering below at all the tiny things.

Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite

This here is the place I will be staying
There isn’t a number. you can call the pay phone
Let it ring a long, long, long, long time
If I don’t pick up, hang up, call back, let it ring some more
If I don’t pick up, pick up. the sidewinder sleeps, sleeps, sleeps in a coil

There are scratches all around the coin slot
Like a heartbeat, baby, trying to wake up,
But this machine can only swallow money
You can’t lay a patch by computer design
It’s just a lot of stupid, stupid signs

So you think you have found the solution
But it's just another illusion
So before you check out your tide
Don't leave another cornerstone
Standing there behind
We've got to face the day
Ooh-we come what may
We the street people talking
We the people struggling

Now they are sitting on a time bomb
Now I know the time has come
What goes on up is coming on down
Goes around and comes around

Breathe Deeply

My most favorite time of day is when the sun is down, the moon is out and the sky is still blue, not yet black. I could walk down silent streets feeling the cool air mixed with the warmth still coming from the ground that was heated by the day. God, I could walk in that forever.

A little town with pubs starting to liven, tiny sounds of people laughing, dishes clinking in a kitchen...preparing dinner for early birds who drink beer by the pint. Shop owners turning the signs from "Open" to "Closed", streetlights blinking on, softly illuminating the streets that look wet from the gentle atmosphere surrounding this tragically beautiful hour.

Whomever named "12 oclock midnight" the witching hour certainly didn't take the time to notice the obvious magic that is dusk.

I dream about this every night. The same old friends are always there, the friends I only see in my dreams now...

So much trouble in the world

So much trouble in the world now
Bless my eyes this morning
JAH sun is on the rise once again
The way earthly things are going
Anything can happen

You see men sailing on their ego trips
Blast off on their spaceships
Million miles from reality
No care for you, no care for me
So much trouble in the world now
All you've got to do is give a little
Give a little, give a little
One more time ye-a-h! ye-ah!

Most Enjoyable Part Of Marriage

When you enjoy the same music and can stay up at night every night together watching movies made in 1937-1942, laughing at the script and wishing for a wardrobe just like the heroine/hero's, happy finally and totally exempt of anything but absolute perfection in friendship and love.

This is why I'm the luckiest person on earth.

Now back to your regularly scheduled movie...featuring Bela Lugosi as the Monster in Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman...here...on TMC.

back to the future

Throughout history people have always lived in the now. They are in the same time and place with the same ideas of past, present and future.

Good Vibrations

When I was a kid I used to play in a band that air strummed to Beach Boy songs. I sang along while pretending to play my electronic kids guitar and my friend drummed. We played for a few weeks and usually played to "surfer girl", "surfin usa" and "surfin safari". I knew all the words and really got into it. We thought we were good. What was it about the beach boys that got us going? Maybe it was growing up in California with the whole surfer image and good vibes thing happening. It was the late seventies and I don't remember a better time to be a kid.

A great female vocal group from Glasgow gives off that same vibe with beach boys sounding licks. Check out Camera Obscura. Check out their album "underachievers please try harder".

Ollie Ollie Oxen Free!

Ollie Ollie Oxen Free! We all yelled at the same time in unison. Everyone was free. From the turmoil, exhaustive assemblage of the disembodied life struggles and social torment. A capitulated existence where we slumber under the hard fist of the iron, relentless governments. Thick skinned, battered down, now brazen souls lashing out against everything in hopes of a meaning. Some kind of signal or recognition, the reckoning of war! What fears do we have then? The useless commercial haze of dollar bills, gold mines and oil refineries. The real black gold of yesteryear when slaves were the first method of gaining ground on the new capitalist ideals. The all sacrificing golgotha. Is there such a thing as getting ahead, getting a one-up on reality, the world, the universe?

Path Home

I'm pressing the doorbell of someone's apartment I don't know. The bell doesn't ring, it shorts out and creates a static short circuiting sound. The kind of sound a car battery makes when I accidentally touch one of the terminals with incorrect jumper cables. I press it once and my life changes. I press it twice and my ears reinvent themselves. I keep pressing and this song arises. Head now nodding, a baker comes outside across the street with a broom. He starts strumming it like a new-age mod rockstar. A homeless man asleep behind a few trash cans starts drumming on lids. People open up their windows and start waving arms, dancing. A girl in an apartment slowly gets up, opens her door and begins to decend the stairs from the 5th floor. She sings with a soft voice.

Ad Hoc

Everything matches
the symphonic weighing of
harmonic simplicity that flows
freely from brass and wooden lightshafts
postured easily next to the bold-type italicism
that steps up ready for the next fan clap, the newest
audition that takes composite notes and selects our greatest
ears...greatest fears and binds them to the next great curtain call...

FUSTILUGS

A grossly fat or slovenly woman.

In those moments when only insults will do, how good it is to turn to the inventive but unsung genius of everyday folk, whose local dialect is so often full of expressive abuse.
This one still has some small currency, mostly in Yorkshire I believe, though at one time it was widely known across a swathe of England ranging from Cumbria to Devon. That it will almost certainly be unknown to the object of your obloquy will add relish to your utterance, though it might not be too hard to work out it isn’t complimentary. It has rarely been written down outside dialect glossaries, but it did appear in 1621 in a long passage full of terms of opprobrium in The Anatomy of Melancholy by Robert Burton:

“Every lover admires his mistress, though she be ... a vast virago, or an ugly tit, a slug, a fat fustilugs”.

Many people know lug as a dialectal or regional English term for the ear (a British comedian used to exhort his audience to listen carefully with the cry “pin back your lugholes!”). If that sense were intended, the term would mean “smelly ears”, suggesting that the person didn’t wash, a plausible origin. However, the Oxford English Dictionary is sure that it’s the idea of lugging around a heavy weight that’s at the root of the matter.
